Business Phone Systems in Glasgow
Cloud communications that keep your business connected.

Indigo Unified Communications installs and supports cloud business phone systems for organisations across Glasgow and Scotland. We work with three platforms, 8x8, 3CX and Microsoft Teams Phone, and recommend the one that fits how you work. Your team can make and take business calls from a desk phone, laptop or mobile, in the office, at home or on site. Depending on how many users you have and which features they need, we'll recommend either a fully hosted system priced per user or a system connected to SIP trunks (phone lines delivered over your internet connection), whichever costs less for your business. With the UK's analogue phone network closing on 31 January 2027, now is the time to move.

Why businesses are moving to cloud phone systems
Old on-premise phone systems are expensive to maintain, hard to change, and tie your people to their desks. The UK's traditional copper phone network also closes on 31 January 2027, a date Openreach confirmed again in September 2026. Lines that haven't moved by then go onto a temporary emergency service from £35 a month wholesale, and in September 2026 around 350,000 business premises still hadn't moved (Openreach, reported by ISPreview). Many businesses are using the deadline to move to a cloud system that works anywhere. Take the 2-minute switch-off check →
A cloud phone system means your number follows your people. Calls can ring on a desk phone, in Microsoft Teams or on a mobile app. Adding a user takes minutes, and you can see and report on every call.
What is unified communications?
Unified communications (UC) brings your business calls, video meetings, instant messaging, voicemail and presence (whether a colleague is free or busy) into one system that works the same way on a desk phone, a laptop and a mobile. When it's delivered from the cloud, it's often called UCaaS: unified communications as a service.
In practice, it means a customer can call your main number and reach the right person whether they're at their desk in Glasgow, working from home in Stirling or on a site in the Highlands, and that person can move the call into a video meeting or send a file without switching apps. 8x8 and Microsoft Teams Phone are full unified communications platforms, and 3CX adds video, live chat and WhatsApp to its phone system.
We supply and support unified communications across Scotland, from our offices in Glasgow and Livingston: Glasgow and the West, Edinburgh and the Lothians, Stirling, Falkirk and Central Scotland, and further north. Areas we cover →
Which phone platform is right for you: 8x8, 3CX or Teams Phone?
| Platform | Best for | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| 8x8 | Businesses wanting an all-in-one cloud phone, video and contact centre platform | 8x8 has been recognised in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications as a Service for 14 years in a row (2025), has strong call recording and analytics, and offers a full contact centre |
| 3CX | Larger teams, cost-conscious businesses and multi-site organisations | Can run on SIP trunks, so you pay for the number of calls made at once, not for every user. A wide choice of handsets. Hosted or on-premise |
| Microsoft Teams Phone | Businesses already working in Microsoft Teams | Calls, chat and meetings in one app, managed alongside Microsoft 365 |
We're not tied to one platform, so we recommend the one that fits your business, not the one we're paid most to sell.
Hosted or SIP? How we keep your costs down
There are two ways to pay for a cloud phone system, and the cheaper one depends on your business.
- Fully hosted, priced per user. Every user has a licence with the features built in. This is usually the most cost-effective choice for smaller teams, and for teams where most people need advanced features such as call recording, queues or contact centre tools.
- A phone system connected to SIP trunks. Instead of paying for every user, you pay for the number of calls you need to make at the same time. As your team grows, or where many users only need basic calling, this becomes the cheaper option.
With Indigo, a fully hosted line starts at about £10 per user per month for a single handset. For most businesses, SIP becomes the more cost-effective option at around 30 users, although the exact crossover depends on how many users you actually need and which features they use. In your free review we price both options for your business, so you can see the difference before you decide.

Switching without the disruption
- New phones run alongside your old ones. We install your new system during working hours and run it in parallel with your existing phones, so there's no downtime while everything is set up and tested.
- Keep your numbers. Once the new system is ready, we arrange the number port. Porting is scheduled by Openreach and happens during the working day (9am to 5pm), as it does for every provider. Because your new phones are already in place, calls simply start arriving on them.
- Call flows designed with you, so callers reach the right person from day one.
- Staff trained on desk phones, softphones and the mobile app before go-live.
Phones, broadband and WiFi from one team
A cloud phone system is only as good as the connection behind it. Because Indigo also supplies and monitors business broadband, leased lines and WiFi, one team is responsible for the whole call path, with one number to ring if anything goes wrong. Business connectivity →

Frequently asked questions
What is hosted telephony?
Hosted telephony, also called a cloud or VoIP phone system, is a business phone system that runs over the internet from a provider's data centre instead of on a box in your office. Calls can be made and received on desk phones, computers and mobiles, and features such as call recording and call queues are managed online.
What is the PSTN switch-off and does it affect my business?
BT Openreach is closing the UK's analogue phone network (PSTN) on 31 January 2027 and replacing it with digital, internet-based services. Any business still using analogue lines or ISDN, including for phones, alarms, lift lines or card machines, needs to move to a digital alternative. Lines that haven't moved go onto a temporary emergency service with limited features, from £35 a month per line wholesale. Take the 2-minute switch-off check →
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Yes. In almost all cases your existing numbers can be moved (ported) to your new cloud phone system. We install and test the new phones alongside your old ones first, then arrange the port. Openreach carries out number ports during the working day (9am to 5pm), and because the new phones are already running, calls move across without downtime.
Should we use Microsoft Teams as our phone system?
If your team already works in Microsoft Teams all day, Teams Phone keeps calls, chat and meetings in one place and is simple to manage alongside Microsoft 365. If you need an advanced contact centre or a lower per-user cost, 8x8 or 3CX may suit you better. We support all three, so we'll recommend the right fit.
How much does a cloud phone system cost?
With Indigo, a fully hosted cloud phone line starts at about £10 per user per month for a single handset. Advanced features such as call recording, queues and contact centre tools cost more; across the UK market they typically take the price to £20–£35 per user per month. For teams of around 30 users or more, a system connected to SIP trunks is usually cheaper, because you pay for the number of simultaneous calls rather than every user. Indigo prices both options in a free review, so you get a fixed quote for whichever costs less.
What is a SIP trunk?
A SIP trunk is a digital phone line delivered over your internet connection. It connects a phone system, such as 3CX, to the public phone network. You pay for the number of calls you can make at the same time (channels), not for each user, which can make SIP the cheaper option for larger teams.
Is hosted or SIP cheaper for my business?
It depends on how many users you need and which features they use. Fully hosted, per-user systems, from about £10 per user per month with Indigo, are usually cheaper for smaller teams and for teams that need advanced features on most lines. For most businesses, SIP becomes more cost-effective at around 30 users, especially where many people only need basic calling. We price both in your free review.
