Sustainability at Indigo
Practical steps to reduce the environmental impact of IT, for us and for our clients.

Indigo Unified Communications reduces the environmental impact of IT in four practical ways. We refurbish, reuse or recycle old equipment through a certified WEEE partner. We fix most issues remotely, so engineers travel less. Our team works hybrid, which cuts commuting. And we move clients from on-site servers to cloud services that use less power. These are things we do today, not future promises.
What we do today
Refurbishing and recycling old equipment
When laptops, desktops, phones and network equipment reach the end of their life, we refurbish and reuse them where possible. Anything that can't be reused goes to a certified WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) recycling partner, with data securely wiped first. That keeps old devices out of landfill and protects your data.
Remote support first
Most IT problems can be fixed without anyone travelling. Our engineers resolve issues remotely wherever possible. In September 2026 we resolved 65% of tickets within two hours, most without a site visit. We send engineers on site only when the job needs hands-on work, which cuts journeys across Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Central Belt.
Hybrid working
Our own team works a mix of office and home, using the same Microsoft 365 and Teams tools we set up for clients. Fewer commutes means lower emissions, and it lets us show clients hybrid working that actually works.
Moving clients to the cloud
Replacing ageing on-site servers with cloud services such as Microsoft 365 and Azure means clients no longer run and cool their own hardware around the clock. Large cloud data centres run more efficiently than a server cupboard. It also means less hardware to replace and dispose of in future.
How this helps our clients
- Lower energy use from fewer on-site servers
- Longer device lifespans through refurbishment and planned replacement cycles
- Secure, responsible disposal of old equipment
- Evidence for tenders: many public sector and large-company tenders now ask suppliers about their environmental practices, and your IT provider's approach counts towards your supply chain answer
Frequently asked questions
What happens to our old IT equipment?
We refurbish and reuse equipment where possible. Anything that can't be reused is securely wiped and sent to a certified WEEE recycling partner, so it's disposed of responsibly and your data is protected.
Does moving to the cloud reduce our carbon footprint?
Usually, yes. Replacing on-site servers with cloud services means you're no longer powering and cooling your own hardware 24 hours a day, and large cloud data centres run more efficiently than small server rooms. It also reduces the hardware you need to buy and dispose of.
Can Indigo help with the environmental section of a tender?
Yes. We can describe our own practices (equipment recycling, remote-first support, hybrid working and cloud migration) for your supply chain answers, and help you plan IT changes, such as server retirement or device refresh cycles, that reduce your own footprint.
