The construction IT health check from Indigo Unified Communications asks ten questions about the problems we see most on sites and in construction offices across Scotland: sign-in security, backup, device management, drawings on site, cabin connectivity, subcontractor access, bank-detail fraud, Cyber Essentials for tenders, the PSTN switch-off at yards and offices, and support response times. You get a score out of 100 and your three biggest risks.

Take the construction health check

1 of 10 · Security Does everyone sign in to email and Microsoft 365 with multi-factor authentication (an app prompt or code)?
2 of 10 · Backup Is your Microsoft 365 data (email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams) backed up separately from Microsoft?
3 of 10 · Devices Are all laptops and PCs managed centrally, with security updates installed automatically?
4 of 10 · Site working Can site teams open the latest drawings and RAMS on a phone or tablet from any site?
5 of 10 · Connectivity Is every site cabin online, with a backup connection if the main one drops?
6 of 10 · Access Do subcontractors get their own time-limited access, rather than shared logins?
7 of 10 · Fraud Are changes to a supplier's or subcontractor's bank details always checked by phone, on a number you already hold?
8 of 10 · Compliance Could you show Cyber Essentials (or Cyber Essentials Plus) for your next tender?
9 of 10 · Phones Have alarms, gate and door entry, lift lines and phones at your offices and yards been checked for the switch-off on 31 January 2027?
10 of 10 · Support When something breaks, does someone from IT support respond within 30 minutes?

Why these ten questions

Construction firms work across a head office, live sites, temporary cabins and a changing team of subcontractors. That's why the questions go beyond standard office IT. Can site teams see the latest drawings? Do cabins stay online? Do subcontractors lose access when a package ends? Would a fake request to change bank details get through? Each one comes from the problems covered in our complete guide to technology for construction companies.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the general IT health check?

Six questions are shared with the general check: multi-factor sign-in, backup, device management, Cyber Essentials, the PSTN switch-off and support. The other four are specific to construction: drawings and RAMS on site, site cabin connectivity, subcontractor access and payment diversion fraud. Those four cover the problems we see most often at construction companies.

Does a good score mean we'd pass Cyber Essentials?

Not on its own. The check covers several Cyber Essentials areas but not all of the detail an assessor looks at, such as firewall settings and every device's supported software. A readiness review from Indigo Unified Communications checks each requirement before you apply.

What happens after I get my score?

Your score and three biggest risks show straight away. If you ask for them by email, a consultant will offer a free construction technology assessment, covering your IT, security, site connectivity, phones and mobiles, with practical recommendations and no obligation.
