Construction Site Internet and Site WiFi
Site cabins online in days, not months.

Indigo Unified Communications gets construction site cabins and compounds online across Scotland, usually within 2–3 working days using 4G or 5G. For longer projects we add a fixed line or leased line, and satellite where mobile coverage is poor. We keep the mobile connection as automatic backup and install Ubiquiti UniFi WiFi for staff, subcontractors and visitors. Every connection is monitored by our Glasgow team.

Why site connectivity is different
A permanent office can wait weeks for a fixed line to be installed. A site compound can't. From day one, your team needs to open drawings, sync photos, complete permits and RAMS, join Teams calls and take card payments for materials. Then, months later, the whole setup has to come down and move to the next job.
Location adds to the problem. Many sites are on the edge of towns or in rural areas where fixed lines don't reach, and Scotland has the lowest 4G coverage by area of any UK nation (Ofcom, 2025). So choosing the right network, and the right antenna, matters.
How we connect a site
- Coverage check. We check 4G and 5G coverage from EE, O2 and Vodafone at the site address, and fixed-line availability.
- Live in 2–3 working days. A managed 4G/5G router, with an external antenna where needed, gets the cabin online quickly.
- Fixed line for long projects. If the job runs long enough, we order full fibre or a leased line and keep the 4G/5G router as automatic backup.
- Satellite where needed. For remote sites with poor mobile coverage, satellite connectivity provides a main or backup line.
- Site WiFi. We install Ubiquiti UniFi access points with separate networks for staff, subcontractors and visitors, plus CCTV if needed.
- Close-down. When the site finishes, we recover the equipment and move it to your next job.

Which connection for which site?
| Site | Typical setup |
|---|---|
| Short job (weeks to a few months) | 4G/5G router with an external antenna |
| Long job (6+ months) | Full fibre or leased line, with 4G/5G failover |
| Remote or rural site with poor coverage | Satellite, with 4G/5G backup where any signal exists |
| Large compound or multiple cabins | Fixed line or 5G, with UniFi WiFi across every cabin |
| Head office | Leased line (5-hour fix time on fibre Ethernet), with 4G/5G failover |
Client example
A Central Scotland building firm, around 160 staff. The firm had no reliable way to get site cabins online, and every new site meant a different workaround. We put Starlink on each site and connected every site and the head office through Cato Networks SD-WAN (secure, managed connections between sites), so site cabins get the same secure network, security policies and access to company systems as the office. New sites now follow one standard setup.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you get internet to a construction site?
Usually within 2–3 working days. We use a managed 4G or 5G router, with an external antenna if the signal is weak, so the cabin doesn't have to wait for a fixed line. If the project is long enough, we add a fixed line later and keep the 4G/5G router as automatic backup.
What's the best internet for a site cabin?
For most site cabins, a 4G or 5G router on the network with the best coverage at that address is the quickest and most practical option. Long projects benefit from adding full fibre or a leased line. Remote sites with poor mobile coverage can use satellite. We check coverage before recommending anything.
Can subcontractors use the site WiFi?
Yes, on their own network. We set up separate WiFi networks for your staff, subcontractors and visitors, so outside firms get internet access without being able to reach your company systems or files.
What happens to the equipment when the site closes?
We recover the routers, antennas and WiFi equipment, reset them, and redeploy them to your next site. Any fixed-line contract is managed to match the project length where possible, so you're not paying for a line after the site closes.
Do you cover sites across Scotland?
Yes. Indigo is based in Glasgow and Livingston and connects sites across Scotland, including rural and remote locations. Because we're not tied to one mobile network, we can use EE, O2 or Vodafone, whichever has the best coverage at each site, or satellite where none do.
