Android phones on plan.com normally set themselves up automatically. If mobile data or picture messages don't work, add the settings manually in Settings › Connections › Mobile networks › Access Point Names. For mobile data, create an APN called "Internet" with the APN data.plan.com and username plan. For picture messages, create an APN called "MMS" with the APN wap.o2.co.uk and the MMS settings below.

When do you need to do this?

Almost never. When you put a plan.com SIM in an Android phone, the network sends the settings to the phone automatically. You only need to add them yourself if mobile data doesn't work, or picture messages won't send, after you've restarted the phone and checked that mobile data is switched on.

The menu names below are from Samsung phones. Other Android phones use slightly different wording, but the settings you enter are the same.

How to set up mobile data (Internet APN)

  1. Open Settings and select Connections, then Mobile networks.
  2. Select Access Point Names.
  3. Select the menu button, then Reset to default, and confirm. This clears any old settings.
  4. Select Add and enter the settings in the table below.
  5. Select the menu button, then Save.
  6. Back in Access Point Names, select Internet so it's the one in use.

How to set up picture messages (MMS APN)

  1. In Access Point Names, select Add.

Still not working?

Restart the phone after saving, and check that Mobile data is switched on and that the phone isn't in flight mode. If data still doesn't work, check the settings for typing errors: the APN and username are case-sensitive on some phones.

Frequently asked questions

What is the plan.com APN?

The plan.com APN for mobile data is data.plan.com, with the username plan. For picture messages (MMS), the APN is wap.o2.co.uk with the username 02wap.

Why is my mobile data not working on plan.com?

Usually because the phone hasn't picked up the network settings, mobile data is switched off, or an old APN from a previous network is still selected. Resetting the APNs to default and adding the Internet APN above fixes most cases.
