Greenversity: device security for cyber insurance, and a SharePoint tracker for solar installs

Greenversity installs solar panels, with teams working across many jobs at once. Its cyber insurer required stronger controls over the devices those teams use. Indigo Unified Communications rolled out Microsoft Intune across Greenversity's laptops, tablets and phones, which met the insurer's requirement. We also built a SharePoint system to track solar panel deployment from job to job, now the standard approach across hundreds of installations.
The brief
Greenversity had two problems that are common in renewable energy businesses. The first came from its cyber insurer, which required stronger controls over the devices its teams use: laptops in the office and phones and tablets out on installations. The second was operational. With solar panels going onto many sites, the business needed one consistent way to track deployment on each job, rather than every team keeping its own records.
What we did
- Microsoft Intune device management: every laptop, tablet and phone is managed centrally, with security settings, updates and remote wipe in place. This met the insurer's requirements.
- A SharePoint deployment tracker: a system in SharePoint for tracking solar panel deployment from job to job, set up as one uniform approach for every installation.
- Managed IT support for the team, from Indigo's Glasgow service desk.
Results
- Greenversity's cyber insurance requirement for device controls was met through Microsoft Intune.
- The SharePoint tracker is now the standard approach across hundreds of Greenversity's installations.
