What's different about IT support for construction?

An office business has one building and a settled team. A construction business has a head office, several live sites, temporary compounds that open and close, and people moving between them all week. Standard IT support isn't built for that. Construction IT support has to handle:

  • Sites that start and stop. New compounds need laptops, printers, WiFi and internet from day one, then everything recovered when the job ends.
  • Drawings that change. Revisions must reach site the same day, and nobody should be working from an old version.
  • People who are rarely at a desk. Site managers, surveyors and contracts managers work from laptops, tablets and phones in cabins, vans and on the tools.
  • Subcontractors and joint ventures. Outside firms need access to the right project files, and only those.
  • Payment fraud. Construction firms make large, regular payments, which makes them a target for invoice and bank-detail fraud by email.
  • Tenders. Clients increasingly ask for Cyber Essentials and evidence of good IT practice at pre-qualification.

What's included

  • Helpdesk by phone, email and portal, 09:00–17:00 Monday to Friday (08:30–17:30 on Platinum), with a first response to every ticket in under 30 minutes
  • An experienced engineering team across first, second and third line, with remote fixes first and site visits when the job needs hands-on work
  • Project workspaces in Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, one per job, with version-controlled drawings, RAMS, permits and site records, and permissions for subcontractors
  • Site set-up and close-down: laptops, printers, WiFi and connectivity ready when the compound opens, and recovered and wiped when it closes
  • Device management with Microsoft Intune: laptops, tablets and rugged phones configured before they reach site, and wiped remotely if lost
  • Security on every device: protection against viruses and ransomware (endpoint detection and response, Kaseya 365), INKY email security against invoice fraud, and multi-factor authentication
  • Microsoft 365 backup (Datto SaaS Protection), so deleted project folders can be recovered
  • Monitoring and patching of every device, so it stays updated, with 24/7 monitoring on Gold and Platinum and, on Platinum, a dedicated security team watching your systems 24/7 (a security operations centre)
  • Cyber Essentials support for tenders (included in Platinum, or bought separately)
  • Technology reviews with a roadmap that plans ahead for new sites, growth and device replacement

How we get you set up

  1. Assessment. A free Construction Technology Assessment reviews your IT, security, sites and Microsoft 365.
  2. Onboarding (about two weeks). We document everything, deploy monitoring and security, and fix urgent risks such as missing multi-factor authentication.
  3. Project workspaces. We set up Teams and SharePoint for your live projects and move current drawings across.
  4. Ongoing support. Your office and site teams use one helpdesk, and we review your technology with you regularly.

We offer Silver, Gold and Platinum packages, priced per user per month. Contact us for a quote.

Client example

A Central Scotland building firm, around 160 staff. Devices across head office and sites weren't centrally managed, and the firm's Azure servers were on pay-as-you-go pricing. We enrolled every laptop and tablet in Microsoft Intune, so security settings, updates and lost-device wipes are handled centrally, and moved the Azure servers to reserved instances to reduce running costs. With those controls in place, the firm went on to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus, which it now uses in tenders.

Frequently asked questions

How much does IT support cost for a construction company?

Managed IT support is priced per user per month, so it scales with your team. The cost depends on the level of cover and security you need, and whether site connectivity and mobiles are included. Indigo offers Silver, Gold and Platinum packages. A free Construction Technology Assessment gives you a fixed monthly quote.

How do you stop site teams working from old drawings?

We set up a Microsoft Teams and SharePoint workspace for each project, where drawings are stored once, with version control. Site teams open the current version on a laptop, tablet or phone instead of relying on emailed copies. Permissions control who can see and edit each folder, including subcontractors.

Can you set up IT for a new site compound?

Yes. We get internet to the cabin, usually within 2–3 working days using 4G or 5G. We set up WiFi and printers and deliver pre-configured laptops and tablets. When the job finishes, we recover the equipment, wipe it securely and redeploy it to the next site.

How do you protect a construction firm from invoice fraud?

INKY email security flags suspicious and impersonation emails with warning banners before staff act on them. Multi-factor authentication stops criminals using stolen passwords to take over mailboxes, and staff training helps people spot fake payment requests. We also recommend a simple rule: confirm any change of bank details by phone on a known number.

Do you support construction companies outside Glasgow?

Yes. Indigo is based in Glasgow and Livingston and supports construction companies and their sites across Scotland. Most support is delivered remotely, and our engineers visit head offices and sites when hands-on work is needed.
