The Indigo IT health check asks ten yes-or-no questions about the controls that stop most cyber attacks, outages and data loss: multi-factor sign-in, backup, device management, monitoring, Cyber Essentials, leavers, the PSTN switch-off, backup internet and support response times. You get an instant score out of 100 and your three biggest risks, with what to do about each. It's built by Indigo Unified Communications in Glasgow from what our service desk sees every week.

Take the health check

1 of 10 · Security Does everyone sign in to email and Microsoft 365 with multi-factor authentication (an app prompt or code)?
2 of 10 · Backup Is your Microsoft 365 data (email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams) backed up separately from Microsoft?
3 of 10 · Devices Are all laptops and PCs managed centrally, with security updates installed automatically?
4 of 10 · Security Do your computers have monitored endpoint protection (EDR), rather than just free or built-in antivirus?
5 of 10 · Security Would you know within an hour if an email account was taken over, or someone set up a forwarding rule?
6 of 10 · Compliance Do you hold Cyber Essentials, or could you pass it today?
7 of 10 · Access When someone leaves, is their access to email, files and systems removed the same day?
8 of 10 · Phones Have your phone lines, alarms, lift lines and card machines been checked for the switch-off on 31 January 2027?
9 of 10 · Connectivity If your main internet connection failed, would you stay online through a backup line or a 4G/5G router?
10 of 10 · Support When something breaks, does someone from IT support respond within 30 minutes?

How the score works

There are ten questions. Each "Yes" scores 10 points, "Not sure" 5 and "No" none, so the maximum score is 100. "Not sure" counts as a partial gap on purpose: if nobody knows whether backups or monitoring are in place, they usually aren't being checked. A score of 80 or more means the basics are in place; 50 to 79 means there are gaps attackers and outages tend to find; below 50 means the controls that stop the most common problems are missing.

The questions follow the five controls in the UK government's Cyber Essentials scheme, plus the backup, continuity and support questions that decide how quickly a business recovers when something does go wrong.

What happens next

Your results appear straight away, with no sign-up. If you'd like them by email, add your details and we'll send the report, then one of our consultants will offer a free technology assessment. That's a review of your IT, security, connectivity and phones, with a short list of practical recommendations and no obligation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the IT health check really free?

Yes. The health check is free and shows your score and three biggest risks straight away without asking for any details. If you want the results by email or a follow-up assessment, you can add your name and email, and a consultant from Indigo Unified Communications will get in touch. There's no charge and no obligation.

How accurate is a 10-question check?

It's a quick indicator, not a full audit. Ten questions can't see the detail behind each answer, such as whether backups actually restore or whether every device is really getting its security updates. It does reliably show where the biggest gaps are likely to be. A technology assessment then checks those areas properly.

Who is the health check for?

Any business or charity with roughly 5 to 500 staff that relies on Microsoft 365, laptops, phones and an internet connection. There's also a version for construction companies, with questions on site connectivity, drawings, subcontractor access and payment fraud.

What do you do with my answers?

If you only view your score, nothing is sent to us. If you ask for your results by email, we save your answers with your enquiry so the consultant can prepare, and we use your details only to follow up on this request unless you tick the box for updates. See our privacy policy for details.
