The Indigo Cyber Essentials readiness check asks ten questions based on the five Cyber Essentials controls and the April 2026 rules, including multi-factor authentication on cloud services and installing updates within 14 days. You get an instant score and your biggest gaps, with what to do about each. It's built by Indigo Unified Communications in Glasgow, which holds Cyber Essentials Plus itself. No sign-up is needed to see your result.

Take the readiness check

1 of 10 · User access Is multi-factor authentication switched on for every cloud service your staff use for work (Microsoft 365, accounting, CRM, file sharing)?
2 of 10 · Security updates Are critical and high-risk updates installed within 14 days on every laptop, PC, server and phone?
3 of 10 · Firewalls Are your router and firewall updated within 14 days, with default passwords changed and remote admin access switched off?
4 of 10 · Security updates Is every operating system and app still supported by its maker (for example, no Windows 10 PCs outside Extended Security Updates)?
5 of 10 · User access Do staff use standard accounts day to day, with admin rights kept to separate accounts for the few who need them?
6 of 10 · Malware protection Does every device have anti-malware switched on and kept up to date?
7 of 10 · Scope Are personally owned phones and home laptops that access work email or files managed, or blocked?
8 of 10 · Secure configuration Are unused software, accounts and default passwords removed from devices and systems?
9 of 10 · User access Is a leaver's access removed on their last day?
10 of 10 · Scope Do you have a list of every cloud service and device your business uses, so you know what's in scope?

What happens next

Your score and biggest gaps appear straight away. If you'd like them by email, add your details. We'll send the report and get in touch within 1 working day to talk it through.

If you decide to go ahead, we agree the scope, give you a fixed quote, fix anything that would fail and complete the questionnaire with you. Your director approves the answers, and our certification partner, Citation, issues the certificate. More about Cyber Essentials with Indigo →

Frequently asked questions

Will passing this check mean we pass Cyber Essentials?

Not on its own. Ten questions can't see every device, account and cloud service, and some answers are easy to get wrong without checking. A good score means you're likely to be close. We confirm it properly before anything is submitted to Citation, our certification partner.

Is the readiness check free?

Yes. The check and your result are free, with no sign-up. If you ask for your results by email, someone from Indigo will get in touch to talk them through. There's no charge and no obligation, and if you go ahead you get a fixed quote first.

What do you do with my answers?

If you only view your score, nothing is sent to us. If you ask for your results by email, we save your answers with your enquiry so we can prepare for the call. We only use your details to follow up this request unless you tick the box for updates. See our privacy policy.
